«In My Place» special project on veteran adaptation

hromadske prepared a special project on veteran adaptation called «In My Place.» It consists of two editorial pieces and one in partnership with Uklon.

They explore what veterans expect from society, the state, and employers when returning from war. We also highlight existing projects from organizations that aid in adaptation, rehabilitation, mental health, retraining.

The first article features Yulia, who entered the war in 2015. After leaving the service, she now runs her own farm and raises four children. The second one introduces three veterans who have each started their own businesses. The third article discusses the challenges that veteran Oleksandr faced in his search for a civilian job.

The heroes stress that individuals who have returned from the war possess the necessary skills and motivation to integrate into civilian life. However, they still need social and psychological support. Therefore we must make efforts to ensure that veterans feel “in their place” in civilian life.
