Kaniv is a small town in central Ukraine surrounded by nature conservation areas. It is also a town where the Butter and Cheese Factory has been operating for over 50 years. For a century, there has been a Kaniv Nature Reserve nearby, home to many endangered species of birds and animals. So, being given the opportunity to make new Kaniv cheese packaging, they decided to emphasize the inhabitants of the reserve in need of protection. Each package of «Kaniv 1971» shows plants and birds enlisted in the Red Book of Ukraine — Dnieper warbler, bear’s bow, black stork, white-tailed eagle, and more than ten precious plant groups. To highlight the uniqueness of these species besides the picturesque origin of the cheese, they decided to refer to the style of acknowledged village folk art painter Maria Prymachenko. Representative of naïve art, she embraced nature in her work and painted fantastic animals straight from folk legends and fairy tales. But there is no need for fantasies when existent marvelous creatures can soon go instinct. So, we decided to put this unique flora and fauna on all store shelves in an attempt to develop eco-awareness, a caring attitude towards nature and its inhabitants, and, of course, to emphasize the natural and delicious origin of cheese.
